how can I set a default filter on the ticket page?

I've been playing with /system/controllers/tickets.php managed to write directly into the query string but obviously this doesn't display the applied filter at the top of the page.

Want it to default to show status of new or accepted (i.e don't show completed tickets)

There currently isn't a way to do this without editing the ticket controller page, sorry.
